Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Quantum Physics

(But Were Afraid to Ask)

No PhD Required

So you think quantum physics is only for geniuses? Think again! Written by a high school student for high school students, this book strips away intimidating formulas and calculations to reveal the mind-blowing ideas of quantum physics. This fundamental theory touches nearly every aspect of our lives, driving advances like quantum computing and cryptography.

The keys to unlocking the greatest mysteries of science and technology lie within these very pages. You will embark on a journey through the quantum realm, where tiny particles defy everyday physics, and discover how observation changes reality. Hop aboard this quantum adventure—because in the quantum world, the extraordinary is just the beginning.

Origin Story

In the summer of 2022, just as I was finishing my freshman year in high school, I became intrigued by the world of quantum physics. Serendipitously, my high school is housed on the City College of New York’s campus, which is known for its high energy physics department. I decided to reach out to every professor in the department, hoping to learn more about the topic and perhaps help them with their research. Fortunately, I heard back from Dr. Tony Liss, a renowned high energy physics researcher (and now Provost of CCNY). He suggested some resources for me to learn about the topic. I read everything I could get my hands on but found much of the advanced math and some of the concepts challenging (as they would be for any 14 year-old). I returned to Dr. Liss with many questions. He took me under his wing and has met with me regularly for the past 2 years to go through this material, including some of his lecture notes.

As time went by and we continued to discuss a wide variety of topics in physics, it became clear to us that it would be wonderful to share our knowledge with other high school students with similar interests. This is how the idea for this book was born – a Quantum Physics book written by a high school student for high school students. Over the past 12 months, I began writing this book under the guidance of Dr. Liss. I am truly grateful to him for mentoring me and for enabling me to have this life-changing experience.

About the Author

Milan Sasson is a student at the High School for Math, Science, and Engineering in New York City. His mentor, Tony Liss PhD, a renowned Particle Physics researcher, introduced Milan to Quantum Physics concepts and inspired him to pursue a deeper understanding in this field. In his free time, Milan enjoys tutoring students in math and physics, and playing the piano.
